The European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) achieved a transparency index of 82.9% in 2024, according to the index results published by the non-profit organisation Publish What You Fund, on Tuesday 16 July.
For the first time since the creation of this transparency index of the world’s leading development aid agencies, DG INTPA is ranked in 10th position, in the “very good” category. In addition, DG INTPA gained 10.5 points more than in 2022 (72.4%).
It obtained a score of 14.8/15 in the “organisational planning and commitments” category, 23.4/25 for “finance and budgets”, 14.1/20 for “project characteristics”, 18.6/20 for “aggregation of development data”, and 12/20 for “performance”.
The scores were awarded on the basis of the timeliness and comprehensiveness of the data published in the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) Registry by the organisations assessed.
The European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, welcomed this result on Tuesday, stressing that accountability and transparency were “crucial to the legitimacy” of the Commission’s work and its Global Gateway investment strategy.
Publish What You Fund recommends that DG INTPA further improve the description of its projects and the timeliness and comprehensiveness of its data on the results of its activities, ensure that all budget documentation is available and that it includes the recognised references across all of its participating organisations in its IATI data.
