24/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 June, the European Commission approved funding of more than €110 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to modernise the Madrid-Seville high-speed railway line in Spain. This grant will be used to modernise a total of 435.2 km of the 471 km railway line infrastructure, ensuring that it meets European rail interoperability standards and the requirements laid out under the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) (see EUROPE 13433/10). In order to improve the service’s overall quality, reliability and frequency, the renovation work will include replacing obsolete rails and carriages, modernising bridges and tunnels and adapting drainage systems. Buildings and installations needed to operate the line will be modernised and access roads will be improved. (AD)
