24/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – Consultations are continuing between the EU and China after the European Commission announced its intention to impose provisional tariffs on Chinese battery electric vehicles on 12 June (see EUROPE 13430/1). The European Commissioner for Trade, Valdis Dombrovskis, held talks with the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, on Saturday 22 June. He insisted that, if these discussions were to lead to an alternative solution to tariffs, it was essential that this solution “effectively remedies the harmful subsidies” provided by China. Technical discussions between the EU and China are scheduled to take place in Brussels this week. These were scheduled well before the provisional tariffs were announced, according to a European source. (LM)
