21/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 20 June, the centre-right Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) lodged a complaint against Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Die Grünen) for abuse of power, according to the Austrian press agency APA. She is accused of having voted in favour of the regulation on nature restoration on Monday 17 June at the Council of EU Environment Ministers in Luxembourg, when the regional governments (Länder) and the Ministry of Agriculture - led by theÖVP - were opposed to it. Ms Gewessler took advantage of the last-minute support of the Vienna Land, breaking the unanimity of the Länder and, according to her, the obligation to follow their advice, to approve the text. Chancellor Karl Nehammer(ÖVP) has not broken up the ruling coalition, but has announced that he will appeal to the European Court of Justice to annul the regulation on nature restoration.
