11/06/24 (Agence Europe) – As a member of the European Council, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is expected to attend the informal dinner for the heads of state or government in Brussels on Monday, 17 June, during which [attendees are expected to discuss] what can initially be learned from the European elections. Nevertheless, a large majority of European leaders would, according to our information, like Mrs von der Leyen—who is also the lead candidate (‘Spitzenkandidat’) for the ‘European People’s Party’ (see EUROPE 13429/1)—to not take part in the discussions when they concern appointments to the top European posts: the European Commission presidency, the European Council presidency, and [the position of] High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs.
