11/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 11 June, the European Commission announced that, following an investigation launched in October 2022, it had concluded that the Hungarian measure to support the construction of a new automotive components plant in Észak Magyarország did not comply with European State aid rules. In particular, the Commission concluded that the aid was incompatible with the guidelines on national regional aid. The European Commission considered that Hungary had failed to prove that this public aid was decisive in leading the beneficiary of the aid to locate its investment specifically in Hungary. According to the Commission, the investigation even showed that the beneficiary of the aid had decided to invest in Hungary without taking the aid into account. The Commission therefore concluded that the aid could not be granted by Hungary. (EV)
