Portuguese Socialist António Costa has backing of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro to succeed Charles Michel

10/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 9 June, Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro pledged his support for former Socialist Prime Minister António Costa in his bid to become President of the European Council. “If António Costa is a candidate for this post, the Portuguese government will not only support him, it will do everything it can to ensure that his candidacy is a success”, his successor, a member of the EPP party, said on Sunday, according to Reuters.
