European Union announces €150 million in humanitarian funding for Afghanistan

On Monday 10 June, the European Commission announced the activation of the European Union’s emergency aid reserve for Afghanistan, where more than 15 million people are acutely food insecure and “pockets of famine” are feared.

Nearly €126 million has been made available to support the EU’s humanitarian partners working inside Afghanistan. More than €11 million will be used to meet the needs of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, and a further €11 million has been allocated to...
