EU Member States to re-discuss draft La Hulpe Declaration

05/04/2024 (Agence Europe)The draft La Hulpe Declaration, which will be endorsed on 15 and 16 April at a high-level conference on the future of European social policies, is due to be reworked before its next examination by the Committee of Permanent Representatives on 10 April, as several delegations have expressed difficulties with the text on the table during the working group on 4 April, according to some sources (see EUROPE 13382/14). Countries such as Sweden continue to oppose this draft declaration, arguing that the priority for the EU’s next ‘Strategic Agenda’ should be on other issues. Other delegations, it has been reported, continue to find the declaration too long and too prescriptive, with some countries not wishing to see references to ongoing initiatives, such as talent partnerships (legal migration) or the coordination of social security.
