05/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – At an event organised by his party in Brussels on Thursday 4 April, Walter Baier, lead candidate (‘Spitzenkandidat’) of the Party of the European Left (PEL), called on the left to “unite in the European elections”, which will take place from 6 to 9 June. According to the Austrian Spitzenkandidat, the left should “be unified in municipalities, parliaments and the European Parliament” to “block the far right’s path to power”. During his speech, Mr Baier also recalled the PEL’s priorities during the election campaign, stressing in particular peace in the world. He stressed the importance of a ceasefire in Ukraine. “Instead of saying ‘we will support this war’, the EU must take initiatives to find diplomatic solutions and put an end to the conflict”, he said.
