05/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Union Prize for Literature 2024 was awarded to Denmark’s Theis Ørntoft for his work Jordisk, at the Brussels Book Fair on Thursday 4 April. Organised by the European Commission, the prize has been celebrating emerging fiction talent in the 40 countries taking part in the Creative Europe programme since 2009. Among the nominees from 13 countries, five special mentions were awarded, to Todor Todorov (Bulgaria), Deniz Utlu (Germany), María Elísabet Bragadóttir (Iceland), Sholeh Rezazadeh (Netherlands) and Tina Vrščaj (Slovenia). Following the nominations, Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, underlined the diversity and cultural richness of the prize, affirming the EU’s commitment to promoting European literature internationally.
