05/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Union is strengthening health security within its borders, “so we can be better prepared for future health threats and crises”, declared the European Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides, on Friday 5 April, to mark World Health Day on Sunday 7 April. She added that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have been strengthened, while the creation of the EU Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) “will enable us to do more to ensure that EU will respond robustly to health threats in the future”. Finally, the Commissioner issued a reminder of the “historic” reform of the EU’s pharmaceutical legislation (see EUROPE 13374/11), put to the vote in the European Parliament on 11 April.
