26/03/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 26 March, the European Union and Moldova decided to extend the validity of their current road transport agreement until 31 December 2025 (see EUROPE 13364/4). The agreement aims to help Moldova access world markets by facilitating transit through EU countries and strengthening its links with the EU market. Signed for the first time in June 2022, it has considerably increased Moldova’s exports by road to the EU. This decision “offers predictability to economic operators both in the EU and in Moldova and confirms our unwavering support to Moldova”, commented Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport, in a press release. This agreement is “a lifeline” for the country, which has lost its traditional trade routes as a result of the war in Ukraine. (AD)
