21/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 20 March, the European Commission hosted a high-level conference bringing together ministers, scientists and representatives of the forestry sector and civil society to make progress on the pledge, made in 2021, to plant 3 billion trees by 2030. “Today, 44 organisations in our 27 Member States have already registered trees in our system, in some cases several million trees at a time. This level of monitoring shows that we are taking our promise seriously”, commented Environment Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius. The conference provided an opportunity to discuss best practice. A significant part of the discussions also focused on reforestation following forest fires. (TM)
