18/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 18 March, at the Foreign Affairs Council (see other news), the EU Council validated the agreement reached with Parliament on the REMIT regulation as part of the European electricity market reform (see EUROPE 13294/5). This regulation is designed to tackle manipulation of the wholesale energy markets. In particular, the revision gives a greater role to the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) in carrying out investigations, clarifies the requirements for EU market participants resident in a third country, streamlines the process for gathering and publishing information and monitoring at European level, and establishes a benchmark for the price of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The regulation will enter into force 20 days after it is published in the Official Journal. To see the regulations: https://aeur.eu/f/bdr (PLD)
