On Friday 15 March, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) approved two amendments proposed by the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) to the Intraday Capacity Calculation Methodology in the Core capacity calculation region, which comprises 13 EU Member States.
The amendments aim to align the methodology with the Regional Operational Security Coordination (ROSC) process and to introduce, in addition to flow-based validation, the Available Transfer Capability (ATC) validation step as a transitional solution. This verifies the amount of electricity that can be safely traded across borders.
These changes, which will have to be implemented by the beginning of July, will therefore facilitate the first implementation of the calculation of intraday capacity based on flows in Europe. “This will enhance the efficiency of the intraday electricity market in the Core region and its further alignment with the congestion management process”, ACER concludes.
