05/03/24 (Agence Europe) – The European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics and Customs Services (CLECAT), the European Shippers’ Council (ESC) and the European Express Association (EAA) expressed their concerns about the position of the Members of the European Parliament on the ‘CountEmissions EU’ regulation on Monday 4 March (see EUROPE 13363/8). In their view, the amendments to this text, which includes a common methodological approach enabling companies to calculate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, “raise serious concerns about the practicability and effectiveness of the regulation, which would increase administrative burden”. They would discourage companies from calculating the GHG emissions of their transport services. The hauliers regret that MEPs have opted for the ‘well to wheel’ approach and recommend that the methodology proposed by the European Commission and in line with ISO 14083 be maintained. (AD)
