27/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – The Quaestors of the European Parliament decided, on Tuesday 27 February, to authorise the Secretary-General to suspend the long-term access badges of the interest representatives of Amazon, the institution announced. “When Amazon tries to avoid the much needed democratic scrutiny, it must have consequences. And finally, today, it has had a clear consequence”, Danish MP Nikolaj Villumsen (The Left), one of the initiators of this request, said on X. The Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL), Dragoş Pîslaru, had officially requested, on Monday 5 February, that this access be withdrawn as long as the US group refused to talk to MEPs about the working conditions of its employees in the European Union (see EUROPE 13355/27). Last week, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament had sent a clear signal in favour of this suspension. (SP)
