27/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 26 February, Belgium, which holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, announced that it had inaugurated the first session of a brand new ‘citizens’ panel’ on the subject of artificial intelligence. The panel, made up of 60 people selected at random from 16,000 invitations sent out across Belgium, held its first meeting on the weekend of 24 and 25 February. It has a number of objectives: to define a vision for the development of AI in Europe, to express citizens’ expectations of European players and to guide Belgium’s positions within the EU Council over the coming years. The panel’s conclusions will be presented to Belgian and European political leaders on 25 May. They will feed into the discussions as part of the definition of the European strategic agenda 2024-2027. (IS)
