On Monday 26 February, the Jacques Delors Institute published a document comparing the approaches to economic security of the EU, China, the United States and Japan. The document also makes recommendations to European decision-makers to complement the strategy on economic security (see EUROPE 13205/7, 13335/1).
First and foremost, the authors identify the EU’s lack of governance on this issue as a major obstacle. This is why they are suggesting the creation of a post of European Commissioner for Economic Security. This would keep the subject at a certain level of importance, in their view.
The Jacques Delors Institute also recommends the establishment of a Council on Economic Security, a forum on the same subject to bring together Member States and businesses, and an agency to develop monitoring and analysis tools.
