23/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 23 February, representatives of the European Union’s institutions and bodies failed to finalise negotiations at political level on the creation of a European ethics body (see EUROPE 13355/6). According to our information, it should be possible for the five independent experts who will sit on the future committee to verify, at the request of a member institution or body, declarations other than declarations of financial interests, if the institution or body in question so provides. Negotiations will continue next week at technical level, alongside the plenary session of the European Parliament, with a major meeting scheduled for Friday 1 March. After that, at least one session of political negotiations will be needed to bring this dossier to a conclusion before the end of the current legislative cycle.
