23/02/2024 (Agence Europe)In Warsaw on Friday 23 February, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the forthcoming release of European Union funds for Poland, following the country’s efforts to respect the rule of law and European case law, particularly with regard to the disciplinary system for Polish judges. “On the basis of the reforms launched and a certain number of immediate measures taken in favour of judicial independence (...), next week the College (of European Commissioners) will present two decisions on the European funds currently blocked for Poland”, she announced alongside the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk. She quoted a figure close to “€137 billion” (€76.5 billion from the Cohesion Fund, €39.8 billion from the Polish post-Covid-19 recovery plan). Poland’s first payment request for €6.3 billion under the recovery plan will also be approved. (CG)
