On Friday 9 February, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced that it had invested almost €1.2 billion in the Western Balkans in 2023, €365 million more than the previous year.
Through its financing arm for activities outside the EU, EIB Global, the EIB has financed transport projects to the tune of €693 million, including the Belgrade-Niš railway line in Serbia and the line between Kriva Palanka in North Macedonia and the Bulgarian border.
