22/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 22 January, the EU Council approved conclusions on the EU’s priorities within the United Nations human rights fora in 2024. In its conclusions, the EU Council reaffirms the EU’s commitment to effective multilateralism and to strengthening the United Nations human rights system and the international criminal justice system. In particular, it calls on all States to respect and cooperate fully with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. According to the EU Council, the EU is ready to continue monitoring the human rights situation in the world and to denounce violations and abuses. The EU also calls on all countries to guarantee the proper functioning of democratic institutions, to fight corruption and to respect freedom of religion or belief, expression and opinion.
