19/01/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 17 January, the European Commission proposed that the Council of the European Union authorise it to negotiate, on behalf of the EU, the conclusion of a new protocol implementing the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. The current protocol grants fishing opportunities to EU fishing vessels in Guinea-Bissau waters. The agreement came into force on 16 June 2007 and has been tacitly renewed every 4 years. The current protocol runs from 15 June 2019 to 14 June 2024. It includes an annual EU financial contribution of €11.6 million for access and €4 million for sectoral support (see EUROPE 12408/33).
