19/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 19 January in Warsaw, the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, welcomed the efforts of the new Polish government to restore the rule of law, saying that this could lead Brussels to release the first funds under the European Recovery Plan, reported AFP. “I am very pleased that the Polish authorities are determined to re-establish the rule of law, which is important in order to ensure that the legislation fully complies not only with the Polish Constitution, but also with the requirements of Community law and the European Convention on Human Rights”, he said. In particular, the Commissioner met the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, and the Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar. This visit comes against a backdrop of settling of scores between Donald Tusk’s government and PiS, particularly over public media. (SP)
