18/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 17 January, Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, presented the Raoul Wallenberg Prize 2024 to her compatriot Neva Tölle, a Croatian human rights defender renowned for her determination to help women victims of domestic violence and to promote recognition of feminicide. “I know that you have experienced threats, intimidation and obstacles of many kinds”, stressed the Secretary General. The €10,000 Wallenberg Prize is awarded every two years in recognition of outstanding humanitarian achievements. Its jury is made up of six independent persons of recognised moral standing appointed by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Budapest, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Lund, the UNHCR and the Wallenberg family.
