Avian flu – €46.7 million in EU funds for Italian farmers

Following a favourable vote by EU Member States, the European Commission announced on Thursday 18 January that it would be granting Italy a package worth €46.7 million to help compensate the country’s farmers in areas affected by cases of avian flu.

Between 1 January and 30 April 2022, Italy experienced 23 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of subtype H5. In response, Italy quickly implemented strict animal health measures. These measures have led to production losses...
