On Wednesday 17 January, the European Parliament vetoed the European Commission’s proposal to tolerate maximum residue levels (MRLs) for thiacloprid above the determination threshold for around thirty imported food products, even though this neonicotinoid active substance used in pesticides has been banned in the EU since 2020 (see EUROPE B12354A7).
In so doing, it endorsed the position of its Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) (see EUROPE B13327A2).
