European Commission’s targeted advertising campaign, Max Schrems’ association accuses social network X of violating GDPR rules

The Austrian association specialising in data protection and privacy, Noyb, lodged a complaint against X (formerly Twitter) with the Dutch data protection authority on Thursday 14 December. It accuses the American company of violating the GDPR rules by illegally using its users’ political opinions and religious beliefs for targeted advertising purposes, as part of a campaign run by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs in the Netherlands.
