08/12/23 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, has called on the aviation industry to standardise standards for hand luggage weights and dimensions, in an open letter published on Wednesday 6 December. “Even though there are clearly situations where those differences are still needed, due to the variety of existing aircraft specifications, making a mandatory ‘one-size-fits all’ impossible at this stage, I am convinced that there is ample room for simplification and further convergence”, she defended. She deplored the problems caused by the many differences in the weights and dimensions of carry-on baggage – and even checked baggage – authorised by different airlines and for different classes of ticket, particularly for connecting flights. In October, the European Parliament approved a resolution on this subject (see EUROPE 13265/25). Read the letter: https://aeur.eu/f/a23 (AD)
