08/12/23 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission’s quarterly reports, published on Thursday 7 December, show that between April and June 2023, European gas markets experienced a continuous fall in prices, with a decrease in gas consumption and a shift towards LNG imports, particularly from the United States, to replace Russian pipeline gas. Electricity markets also showed positive trends, with a fall in wholesale electricity prices, following the declines seen in the first quarter, which benefited EU households. The European benchmark for electricity averaged €89/MWh in the second quarter of 2023, 53% less than in the same period twelve months earlier.
