24/11/23 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 23 November, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, and the Turkish Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, agreed to increase cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organised crime. According to a Commission press release, they also examined ways to strengthen coordination between their respective migration and law enforcement agencies. Highlighting their desire to step up cooperation in order to reach a positive conclusion in the achievement of the benchmarks under the dialogue on visa liberalisation, the two parties will in the meantime study ways of facilitating travel for Turkish citizens by accelerating visa issuance. The EU and Turkey will meet regularly at the level of technical and senior officials to review the progress on cooperation. (CG)
