24/11/23 (Agence Europe) – In a report published on Friday 24 November entitled ‘Powering Europe’s Tomorrow - A Blueprint for 100% Renewable and Resilient Infrastructure’, the NGO network Climate Action Network Europe stresses the urgent need to transform Europe’s energy system. Faced with high congestion on the current electricity networks, the document highlights the need to balance the modernisation of existing infrastructure with the creation of the new in order to achieve a successful energy transition. It emphasises the need for infrastructure development that is environmentally friendly and socially inclusive, integrating local and national concerns. CAN Europe’s five key recommendations include promoting a 100% renewable energy system, phasing out fossil fuel infrastructure, optimising energy savings, developing a decentralised and digital energy system and building infrastructure that puts people and nature first.
