Thirty organisations insist on need to base approach to legislation on artificial intelligence on risk

24/11/23 (Agence Europe)Some thirty organisations representing Europe’s digital industry called on the co-legislators on Thursday 23 November to focus on information sharing, cooperation and compliance support along the value chain to regulate foundation models as part of the inter-institutional negotiations on artificial intelligence (AI) (see EUROPE 13299/13). The letter’s signatories believe that the concept of ‘high-performing’ or ‘high-impact’ foundation models “cannot be measured and is not future-proof”. Furthermore, according to these organisations, the risk-based approach “is supported by a broad industry alliance” and is “essential to ensure that the regulatory framework is technology-neutral”. They also state that the approach should focus on truly high-risk use cases and “not treat all AI software with no intended purpose as high-risk”. (TM)
