Kauko Aaltomaa remains head of EUCAP Somalia mission

24/11/23 (Agence Europe) – Finland’s Kauko Aaltomaa has been reappointed head of the European Union Police Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia), according to the legal act published in the Official Journal on 24 November. In post since January 2023, he will remain Head of Mission until 30 April 2024. His mandate was due to end on 31 December 2023 (see EUROPE 13088/33). The mandate of the EUCAP Somalia mission runs until 31 December 2024. The aim of this mission is to strengthen the maritime police units in and around Somalia’s four main ports (Mogadishu, Berbera, Bosaso and Kismayo), contribute to the development of the Somali Coast Guard’s functions and continue to advocate the importance of maritime safety, and finally to support the wider development of the Somali police force.
