On the 628th day of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, and with winter approaching, the European Commission announced on Tuesday 14 November that it was providing a further €110 million in humanitarian aid, mainly to deal with the disastrous humanitarian situation in the country (€100 million), but also to help Ukrainian refugees and their host communities in Moldova (€10 million).
This additional funding will enable the Commission’s partner humanitarian organisations on the ground to provide essential services to the affected populations, such as cash, food, water, shelter, healthcare, psychosocial support and personal protection.
Aid will be delivered by United Nations agencies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and numerous local NGOs working in partnership with them.
This new financial package brings to €843 million the humanitarian aid mobilised to date for the victims of the war in Ukraine since 24 February 2022 - including €785 million for Ukrainians in their own country and €85 million for refugees in Moldova. In addition, 97,000 tonnes of aid in kind - equipment and essential goods - have been delivered through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
