17/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – At the Ecofin Council in Luxembourg on Tuesday 17 October, the EU Finance Ministers adopted the eighth revision of the Directive on the exchange of tax information between Member States (DAC8). This revision was agreed upon at a previous Council meeting in May (see EUROPE 13183/1). It extends the scope of the Directive, which now includes crypto-assets and electronic transactions “in order to address the risks posed by the digitalisation of the economy”, explained the Spanish minister, Nadia Calviño Santamaría, during the public debate. “This exchange of information [...] will contribute to financial stability, and the fight against money laundering and the financing of crime and terrorism”, she added.
