12/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 17 October, the European Parliament will award the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism 2023. Twelve journalistic projects from media based in 8 Member States are in the running. Several of these relate to corruption scandals involving the Kremlin, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, including two on Qatargate. The other investigations deal with migration, chemical substances contamination, hate crimes within the police force and the Amazon rainforest. The awards ceremony will take place at the European Parliament, in the presence of its President, Roberta Metsola, and the authors of the Pegasus project, winners of the 2021 edition (see EUROPE 12813/24). The winner of the 2023 edition will take home €20,000. The competition, supported by the European Parliament, is held every year in commemoration of the Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia (see EUROPE 13045/25).
