On Thursday 14 September, the European Commission announced that it had authorised a €70 million aid scheme in Slovakia to support livestock farmers and food and drink producers facing cash shortages due to the increase in certain costs (electricity, animal feed, fertilisers and soil improvers).
This scheme was notified under the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework for State Aid (see EUROPE 13138/1).
The aid will reach beneficiaries until 31 December 2023 in the form of a reduction in the social security contributions that employers would have had to pay for the period from August 2023 to January 2024.
Eligible beneficiaries should be able to claim aid of up to €700 per employee per month. More generally, aid will not exceed €250,000 per company active in beef farming, €300,000 per company active in the processing of fishery and aquaculture products and €2 million per company active in other eligible sectors.
