13/09/23 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 13 September, the European Commission announced that it had approved the addition of ‘Sárréti kökénypálinka’ to the Community register of quality agricultural products. This is a protected geographical indication (PGI) designating a fruit spirit with a minimum alcoholic strength of 38.5% and a volatile substance content of at least 250 g/hl of 100% alcohol. This pálinka is rich in volatile substances with an aroma reminiscent of sloe. ‘Sárréti kökénypálinka’ is full-bodied, with notes of almond and marzipan, and is slightly sweet. This new denomination will be added to the list of more than 260 spirit drinks already protected at EU level. (LC)
