European Commission consultation on transition to a more resilient agri-food system

On Monday 24 July, the European Commission launched a public consultation seeking views on how to make the agri-food industrial ecosystem greener, more digital and more resilient.

The Commission poses a number of open questions, notably on the synergies between agri-food and other ecosystems that can help to improve resilience, and on ways to increase energy efficiency and the share of renewable energies within the agri-food system.

This consultation is part of the Commission’s work to update the EU’s industrial strategy for 2021.

The consultation is open to the entire industrial value chain, as well as to public authorities, social partners, research organisations and others.

At the same time, the Commission plans to organise workshops to discuss and gather opinions on how to make this industrial ecosystem more competitive.

The aim is to create ‘a transition pathway for the agri-food sector’ by the end of 2023. The public consultation on this transition for the agri-food industry will run until 19 September.
