European Commission approves four new French geographical indications

27/07/23 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 27 July, the European Commission announced that it had approved the addition of four French products from the island of Corsica to the Register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs). These are ‘Pancetta de l'île de Beauté’/‘Panzetta de l'île de Beauté’ (dry charcuterie), ‘Saucisson sec de l'île de Beauté’/‘Salciccia de l'île de Beauté’, ‘Bulagna de l'île de Beauté’ (dry charcuterie) and ‘Figatelli de l'île de Beauté’/‘Figatellu de l'île de Beauté’ (raw liver sausage). The European General Court ruled that the Commission has an autonomous margin of discretion to verify that an application for registration of a PGI designation meets the eligibility conditions laid down for PGIs on the island of Corsica (see EUROPE 13221/27). The Commission also approved the registration of the protected designation of origin (PDO) for ‘Gower Salt Marsh Lamb’, a lamb reared in South Wales. (LC)
