EU mobilises €10 million in humanitarian aid for Sudanese refugees in Chad

24/07/23 (Agence Europe)The European Union is mobilising a further €10 million in humanitarian aid for Chad to help Sudan’s neighbouring country cope with the needs of the most vulnerable Sudanese refugees, announced the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, on Friday 21 July. On the same day, the third flight of the humanitarian airbridge launched at the end of May took off for N’Djamena carrying 90 tonnes of urgently needed goods for partner humanitarian organisations (see EUROPE 13192/39). Fifty-two tonnes came from the pre-positioned stockpile in Brindisi, Italy. The two previous flights delivered 180 tonnes of emergency supplies, including medicines, shelters, water and sanitation equipment and school supplies. Since the start of the Sudan crisis, humanitarian funding for Chad has totalled more than €18.6 million. A further €39.1 million has been mobilised this year for the most vulnerable people in other provinces of Chad. (AN)
