24/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 20 July, the EU Council adopted the EU’s priorities for the United Nations at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (September 2023-September 2024), highlighting that multilateralism is a fundamental principle of the EU. The EU and its Member States will continue to defend the international order based on the rules of the United Nations Charter and to work for a reformed and well-functioning multilateral system, with an effective and sustainably funded United Nations at its heart, the Council warns. The EU has three main priorities for the coming year: accelerating the implementation of the sustainable development goals, strengthening global governance in line with the UN Secretary-General’s proposals for reform and modernisation, and building global partnerships to help achieve common goals.
