EU launches a humanitarian airlift to help Sudanese at Chad border

01/06/2023 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 1 June, the European Commission announced the launch of a humanitarian airlift to Chad to help thousands of people fleeing the fighting in Sudan. A first shipment of 90 tonnes of emergency aid arrived in N'Djamena the same day with shelter, water, sanitation and health equipment, school supplies and other materials for children. The equipment is for humanitarian partners helping displaced people cross the border into Chad including UNICEF, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), Action Against Hunger and Solidarités International. A logistic assessment mission is currently underway in Chad to ensure continued support for partner humanitarian organisations in the country, according to the Commission. Another humanitarian bridge, launched at the beginning of May towards Port Sudan, delivered 90 tonnes of aid (see EUROPE 13183/38). (AN)
