06/07/23 (Agence Europe) – Croatia is taking stock of the reconstruction efforts needed to recover from the damage caused by the devastating earthquakes of March and December 2020 in Zagreb, Petrinja, and Sisak-Moslavina County. On Thursday, 6 July, the European Commission pointed out that this reconstruction has been supported by €1 billion in aid from the EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF), which was granted in 2020 and 2021. Thanks to EU support, Croatia has been able to invest in the rapid reconstruction of infrastructure as well as schools, universities, hospitals, and cultural sites. The EUSF funded the reconstruction of Zagreb Cathedral, the Merkur Clinical Hospital and Sisters of Charity Hospital, several faculties of the University of Zagreb, and the Dr Ivan Merz Primary School in Zagreb as well as the installation of container settlements in Sisak-Moslavina County to provide temporary housing.
