European Commission to examine possibility of stopping trade in loose shark fins

On Wednesday 5 July, the European Commission gave a partial response to the demands of the ‘stop finning - stop the trade’ European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) calling for an end to the international trade in shark fins.

The illegal practice consists of cutting off the shark’s fins and throwing its body back into the sea.
