European Union deploys an election observation mission to Maldives

05/07/23 (Agence Europe) – In response to an invitation from the Maldivian authorities, the European Union announced on Tuesday 4 July that it would be deploying an Election Observation Mission to the country to observe the presidential elections scheduled for 9 September 2023. MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor (S&D, Spanish) has been appointed by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy as Chief Observer. “The forthcoming Presidential Elections will be another defining moment in the country’s democratic path. I trust all parties will strive for credible, transparent and inclusive elections”, declared Nacho Sánchez Amor. (PLD)
