03/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 3 July, several manufacturers involved in energy procurement published a joint letter calling on European co-legislators to adopt a reform of the electricity market “that does not discourage industries from using more renewable energy”. Among other things, they are calling for a simple framework to be guaranteed for the development of power purchase agreements (‘PPA’) “without new obligations (EU database), obligatory PPA trading platforms or standardised contracts in legislation”. They are also calling for an end to the emergency measures introduced in 2022 and for market price capping not to be institutionalised, as well as for caution, given that no impact study has been carried out to assess the Commission’s proposal.
